Works under supervision of Engineering Manager and has fairly wide latitude for decision making and establishing of priorities within the section.  Coordinates own activities with Project Engineers, Contract Coordinators, and Purchasing personnel.  Guides others and personally provides technical and clerical services in gathering, organizing, logging and controlling vendor and Metso drawings and documents needed for the preparation of Erection and Operating Manuals for our products.  Requires the ability to understand and format the customized computer programs to be able to generate Metso Electronic Erection & Operating Manuals.
  • Uses information in SAP Bill of Material and order information systems, and interfacing with the Contracts group and Project Engineer, determines the primary and auxiliary equipment sold on each customer "new equipment" order, and collects & organizes the required vendor drawings for the Erection & Operating manuals.
  • Reviews existing Manuals for similar type equipment, consults with Project Engineers, and, as necessary, advises and coordinates with Aftermarket Services any necessary modifications of the instruction narratives, or any necessary generation of new narratives for the equipment erection and maintenance manuals.
  • Reviews, generates and formats the customized Metso computer programs as required per project to match customer specifications and equipment sold to produce the Metso Electronic E & O Manual.
  • Checks receipt of vendor documentation and availability of company drawings against the customer Bill of Material and the order (job) requirements, maintaining the control log for received materials and status of outstanding materials.
  • Consults with the Project Engineer and Purchasing on drawing and documentation availability, advises on requirement dates, and expedites those departments to assure materials are available in time to prepare Manuals by contract deadlines.
  • Checks received materials for accuracy and completeness as to manual and contract requirements, and forwards "final" documents to the Documentation Clerk for filing and later retrieval in preparing instruction Manuals.  Instructs the Documentation Clerk on the preparation and routing of document transmittal forms for any documents being returned to the vendors.
  • Must keep abreast of all developing computer software required to generate the Metso Electronic E & O Manual.
  • Must keep abreast of standard computer software required to assist in writing and producing the Metso Electronic E & O Manual.  (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Paper port, software to download and compress info, etc.)
  • Working with both Purchasing and the vendors, builds and maintains a library of vendor documents and drawings such that these documents can be retrieved and copied whenever "standard" vendor components are incorporated in company products.
  • Coordinates with the Documentation Clerk so that vendor drawings can be copied and/or filed in accordance with drawing status and contract requirements.
  • Instructs the Documentation Clerk regarding Manual requirements for company drawings.
  • Makes decisions on each job based on workload, general guidelines, and job priorities with any associated delivery damages, on whether to make necessary numbers of Manual copies internally or to subcontract such work.  Assists in developing alternate sources of such subcontract activity.
  • Advises Manager, Engineering on new or revised equipment, furniture, and/or procedures which will improve efficiency and effectiveness of section operations.

  • Associate Degree in Engineering or technical field of study, and three years of experience in a design and make-to-order heavy manufacturing environment.  (A high school diploma and 4 years of experience may be substituted for the Associate Degree). 
  • A detailed working knowledge of PC's, including hands on familiarity and experience using word processing and spreadsheet software, is required. 
  • A strong personality capable of making decisions and establishing priorities while working under pressure is required. 
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented, and must have good writing and grammar skills.
  • Excellent communication skills required, combined with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. 
  • Frequently required to stand and walk, and occasionally required to climb or balance. 
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Use of keyboards, visual use of computer monitors, answering telephones, reading written technical documents and correspondence, operate a calculator, listening and speaking in verbal conversation.
