Mineral Processing Engineer

The mineral processing engineer will be involved in many activities including: process audits (benchmarking current performance through sampling and data analysis), process optimization (recommending operational or design changes through observations, data analysis and simulation), and overall process support for the market areas of USA and Canada.

Responsibilities include:
    • Identification and assessment of operational, control or design-related problems or constraints; design and evaluation of alternative solutions;
    • Work directly with product lines to incorporate Metso products into process solutions
    • Selection and justification of recommended solutions/products;
    • Implementation and evaluation of recommendations. Implementation may be in the form of process re-engineering, DCS or PLC configuration, or process optimization using available analytical, statistical and/or simulation tools.
    • May be required to seek out new work and develop market contacts through personal communication, including visiting client sites, pursuing sales leads from various sources, and attending/participating in mineral processing conferences.
    • Responsible for maintaining and developing technical competency by monitoring emerging technologies and utilizing these to solve real problems at client sites when appropriate.
 
Qualifications and Experiece:
  • Bachelor of Science or Applied Science (or higher) in Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering required (or equivalent international certification).
  • Registration, or eligibility to register, as a Professional Engineer within a state, provincial or territorial association preferred, but not necessary depending on experience.
  • Four to eight years of mineral processing plant experience with demonstrated abilities in operations and process optimization of crushing, grinding and flotation circuits.
  • Mineral processing plant experience with demonstrated abilities in process control is an asset.
  • Engineering skills must include proven abilities in data analysis and structured problem solving.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office products (especially Excel) is a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills, with attention to accuracy and detail is essential.
  • Ambition and determination tempered by empathy, flexibility and perseverance is required; particularly while working at client sites.
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in process and control engineering design/optimization
  • Develop strong trusting relationships to gain support and achieve results.
  • Manage multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be self-directed and motivated.
  • Take initiative to identify and anticipate customer needs and make recommendations for implementation.
  • Flexibility to work within a matrix organization as either project lead or participant, independently or in teams, is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
    • Use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and talk and/or hear (especially audible warning horns);
    • Sit, stand, walk, and may be required to climb, balance, and work on stairs, ladders and scaffolding;
    • Use close, distance, color and peripheral vision, with depth perception;
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 kilograms;
    • Stamina to work long hours when required;
    • Work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise and all kinds of outdoor weather conditions (with personal protective equipment, as appropriate);
  • A willingness and capacity for domestic travel (up to 50%) and stay in remote locations associated with assignments of varying frequency and duration is essential.
  • Live and work in environments varying significantly between sites, plants, and regions.
