Job Statement
The Mechanical/Hydraulic Engineer performs various design, proposal and troubleshooting/inspecting activities on heavy bulk material handling equipment, including preparing all of the necessary technical data to design, modify or retrofit heavy bulk material handling equipment,  reviewing the contract requirements, selection of equipment designs, preparation of required calculations and specifications, and reviewing drawings as they are prepared.  Primary area will be in the design and component selection of hydraulic power units associated with the product line.
 
Job Duties and responsibilities (in addition job statement)
•Produces technically sound designs which meet the contract requirements, good engineering practices and solves the customer's needs and/or problems.
•Provides information, guidance and assistance to the mechanical drafting personnel for the production of drawings.  Reviews drawings for accuracy
•Produces work within the allotted hours and material budgets, working within the allotted schedule.
•Effectively coordinates work with other groups within the company.
•Provides timely information to others and reviews other disciplines' work to insure it is compatible with the mechanical design and meets contract requirements.
•Applies basic knowledge of electric power and control systems to specified designs.
•Communicates effectively with the customer and keeps customer advised periodically on the status of the work.  Delivers promised information as indicated.
•Produces technical specifications for material purchase which are accurate and review vendor technical submittals for adequacy.
•Provides Replacement Parts Manual Coordinator maintenance and operational manual information which is current and accurate.
•Maintains awareness of current state-of-the-art technologies and trends in mechanical engineering and suggests product improvement ideas.
•Travel (up to 20%) may be required as needed, including both domestic and international
•Performs other miscellaneous duties as requested.
 
Qualifications and experience
•Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related (or equivalent training/experience)
•Minimum 10 years experience in the design, application and field servicing of both open and closed loop hydraulic system for heavy duty industrial equipment.
•Experience with AutoCad is required.
•Professional Engineer license is a plus.
 
Skills and abilities
•Solid background in the hydraulic components selection and application and hydraulic system design for both open and closed hydraulic system.
•Hydraulic field trouble shooting experience.
•Must be proficient in general mechanical and machine design such as shaft stress analysis, reducer selection, bearing life calculations, cylinder design and sizing, and have a general understanding of power transmission components.
•Solid understanding of shop manufacturing practices and field erection procedures, as well as hydraulic power systems is required.
•Knowledge of structural design as it relates to machinery is necessary.
•A basic understanding of electrical power and controls is desirable
•Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office Products, AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCad.
•Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills are required as job incumbent will have frequent interactions with both internal and external customers and suppliers.
•Must be able to effectively discuss, explain and coordinate designs with drafters and other disciplines cross-functionally
•Must be able to function effectively both as a member of a team and as an individual contributor
•Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted with minimal supervision
•Highly motivated individual with the ability to work under stress and meet tight deadlines.
•Must be capable of effectively and accurately working on several projects at one time
•Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment.
•Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and effectively communicate with others.
•Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance.
•The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, including climbing up and down multiple flights by way of stairs or ladders when working in the field.
•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
•Visual acuity is required to read and produce accurate engineering materials.
•Required use of keyboards, telephones, copiers, fax, visits and movement through shops, and travel experiences.
•Ability to react to audible warnings. 
•Valid Driver’s license for local and international travel.
